Babies!

This is my first attempt at starting plants for a garden from seed and it's so exciting. I love checking in on the seedlings every evening when I come home from work. Growing your own food is really satisfying and I'm going full force this summer. I'll be chronicling my progress here so you can follow me through my triumphs and tribulations.

I found a DIY today for origami seed starter boxes that I wanted to share for those who don't have access to k-cups but still wanted to use recycled materials. The great thing about these boxes is that you can plant the entire newspaper box and it will just decompose. Step-by-step instructions can be found on Joanne's Craft Nook.

  1. I've been trying this as well...with eggshells! It's been good so far, so I'm just hoping I don't kill them, ha! I also have a few decomposable paper trays with some more seedlings going...feeling all greenhouse here, lol!

  5. @jacobksamuelson It's working pretty great so far, all of the seeds I've started in the first round have sprout so I started more yesterday.

  6. I love the newspaper origami starter pots...I wonder if you could do the same with magazine paper? can't wait to see the garden when I am officially your nearby neighbor :)

  7. @Emily Emily, you might be able to use magazine paper to make the origami boxes but the advantage of using newspaper is that you can plant it directly in the ground and it will break down relatively quickly.

My neighbor, really? are you a soon to be Montclair resident?
