Designer Spotlight: Wary Meyers

I first fell in love with John and Linda Meyers, the husband and wife design team behind Wary Meyers Decorative Arts, when I saw this photo of their home in the March 2007 green issue of Domino magazine.

John and Linda have an interesting perspective on interior design.  Instead of shopping the large design centers or high end showrooms, they spend their days checking estate sales, flea markets, vintage shops, and possible even dumpsters for their decorating finds.  In a quote from the Domino interview Linda explains, "It's not that we are against new stuff, per se.  It's just that there are so many exquisitely designed pieces out there that are crying out for the chance to live new lives.  They're so much better off with us and our clients that in a landfill!".   Amen sister!  That is the true definition of green design.  Find a way to use what you already have or reuse existing materials.  The results can be just as spectacular as a room full of all new furniture.  I give you, Exhibit A:

As a couple they really are a Jack and Jane of all trades.  In addition to interior design clients John creates custom portraits and family crests and Linda is a clothing designer.  They are also working on a book based on their "Tossed & Found" column that will provide step by step instructions for transforming castoffs into one of a kind pieces.

It's not surprising that I enjoy the aesthetic of this design duo.  John previously was the Corporate Display Director designing store interiors for Anthropologie.

Check out the Wary Meyers:Interior Design website for many more great photos of their commercial and residential design projects.

  4. This is a great reminder to slow down the design process and wait for the right piece instead of succumbing to the need for immediate gratification. These rooms are so beautiful. Love the hanging chairs.
